What is HTM71?
HTM 71 is a ‘Health Technical Memorandum’ which was first published by the NHS in 1998. It is one of a series of documents that aims to standardise building components in healthcare buildings, making them as efficient as possible.
HTM71 sets out guidance for design teams and specifiers on the use of modular storage systems in health buildings. It addresses the need for more efficient and cost-effective management of healthcare furniture in NHS facilities and focuses on materials management modular storage and sets out the principles and design of the system itself.
Our HTM71 units:
Manufactured in house at Pharmacy Medical, these storage units are designed to offer HTM71 compatible storage and dispensing solutions. Manufactured from either powder coated mild steel or medical grade mild steel, all our trolleys are fitted with 100mm braked castors for easy manoeuvrability, or feet on the storage units. All our ward trolleys are also fitted with a removable stainless steel top and protective bumpers at all four corners.
Advantages of HTM71 Systems
An NHS study* found that using a HTM71 system over alternative systems could provide a 23% reduction in floor space for a like-for-like (HTM63) system and a 12% reduction in cost for a like-for-like (HTM63) system.
Modular storage systems can provide functions that can be tailored to particular requirements more precisely than traditional storage methods such as filled cupboards. This in turn allows easy visual location, more efficient stock rotation, reduced space requirements and greater flexibility.
Additional benefits include generally more efficient and cost effective use of built volume.
