Controlled Drug Cabinets and Medicine Cabinet Recycling
Our Controlled drugs cabinets and medicine cabinets are 100% recyclable.
Here at Pharmacy Medical we strive to be a responsible manufacturer and as part of this we endeavour to reduce the amount of waste we create in our processes.
Manufacturers of Controlled drugs cabinets and medicine cabinets for many years we have, during that time undertaken to create as little waste as possible.
We have identified two areas which have the propensity to create waste and focus on these to manage the amounts we create.
- Manufacture
We manufacture our products primarily from steel, both non-ferrous and ferrous. This material is used in the construction of 98% of our products. Controlled drugs cabinets through to medicine cabinets right down to the small cable reels we manufacture for the Ambulance service are made from these materials. Our recent introduction of our own in-house Laser cutting machine has increased the waste we create in the cutting process. The Laser cutting program on the machine nests the cabinet blanks to give the most efficient use of the sheets we cut. However, this still results in scrap steel left around the perimeter of the blanks. This scrap material together with any other scrap and waste steel from our manufacturing process is sorted by us into skips which we store on our site. Each skip is designated for Ferrous steel, stainless steel, Aluminum and mixed metals. These skips are then collected by a specialist waste collector for recycling. The steel is baled into blocks and ultimately melted down for use in the production of new steel.
- Products
Our products, being made from steel are recyclable too. When they come to the end of their life they too can be returned either to us for scrapping or sent by the end user to recycle. There are no parts of our products which are not suitable for recycling.
- Packaging
A large percentage of our products are dispatched to customer by carrier and so require protection during their journey. The packaging we use for the outer case is a cardboard manufactured into box form. These boxes are held together using an adhesive, we do not use staples to assist in their recycling.
To further protect the product a polystyrene wrap is placed around the cabinet before it is placed in the box. This too is fully recyclable.
It is our goal to send zero waste to landfill.
At present we are pleased that only one small bin is taken to landfill every two weeks, this is a significant improvement by us over the past twenty years.
